Angie Clay

Hello! Meet Angie Clay, the creative hands and heart behind a self-care business called Liberate and Lather. Angie is a notebook and paper junkie, bargain shopping enthusiast, natural hair lover and wandering nomad. She spends most of her days making the most out of fat, by turning it into creamy, body-loving, smell goods, AKA soap that fuses perfectly with a hot shower. Angie is an avid journal writer and has been doing this practice for the last 25 years. Self-care is a huge piece of creating a healthy lifestyle. She has been able to implement this into the Liberate and Lather “Journaling for Self-Care” community where women can learn to express themselves and solve issues by using journaling as a way to explore and let go of things that hold them back from truly living their best lives.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My family is from down south; that’s where I grew up.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
What I love most about making and selling soaps and candles and curating journals is combining both beauty and mental health; to me that’s how it should be. I also love my podcast and interviewing incredible humans!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love the sushi from Tsunami and for Mexican food my go to is Mi Casa.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve been here since 2001; this will be my 20th year!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
The most interesting people I’ve met are the creative hairdressers here in town. They have been the most supportive women! Specifically, Charlotte Ballanger from Bloom and Vanessa Heale from The Cutting Edge.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Bora Bora. I want to see it for myself; to see if it’s all that the rich and famous say it is. I’m down to chill, eat and write there.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Different World.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be a good human and seek truth.

I’d like to lead a journaling world tour!

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
I like the reggae genre on Pandora.

The Sand Box. No town is complete without a book store!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Tracee Ross. She’s in her 40’s, she’s single and living a successful life, and she’s funny. We’d totally have lunch at the Star Cafe in Sea/Tac.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The openness and vastness of the area.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself spending more time in Texas and Arizona.
