Mariah Koefed

Hello! Meet Mariah Kofoed. Mariah is the owner of Lox and Lounge Salon and Boutique here in Moses Lake. She grew up a tom-boy and then joined the beauty industry at age 18. She’s been a stylist for over 19 years, being specialized in hair extensions for the last 13 of those years. Mariah is also a fierce advocate for children with autism.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’ve been married to Keith, a local farmer for 11 years. You can say I was a city girl, turned farm wife, for sure. I have three kids and we all enjoy boating, camping, dirt biking and exploring Washington!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
What I love about being in my industry is all the relationships I get to have with my clients. Helping women find their confidence in themselves is absolutely the best.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Mr. Flatbread and Chicos.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
14 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Lenae Haugen (owner of Silver Sage). She’s just a free spirit and she really draws people in because she’s not afraid to express her creativity with everyone and be herself.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
The middle east, specifically Jerusalem.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Survivor.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be kind and take time to get to know people; lead with service.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To open up a beauty school.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Muse and Tori Amos.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Vivian Mackinder – she’s in New York and an icon in the beauty industry. She is constantly shifting and growing with the trends; super inspiring.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The lake.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself here in Moses Lake, in a larger salon, surrounded by like minded, creative souls. And I see myself opening up a beauty school as well.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a super competitive tomboy at heart.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Bruges, Belgium.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favorite month? March – it’s my birthday month and it’s when it starts to warm up around here. My favorite holiday is Easter.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My little guy’s laughter!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
The community of women I work with.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Mint and dirtbikes.
