Kortni Nelson

Hello! Meet Kortni Nelson. Kortni is the owner of AIM School & Gymnastics, a school and competitive gymnastics facility here in Moses Lake. Not only is she the owner, but she is a kindergarten teacher, a gymnastics coach, and a mom to three daughters. Aim Gymnastics is not only a place for competitive and recreational gymnastics, but it offers birthday party rentals, a private school for ages pre-school through 5th grade, and all kinds of fun summer camps. Keep reading to learn more about Kortni and how she landed in Moses Lake over 20 years ago.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I was raised on a farm in Burley, Idaho and I am the oldest of six siblings. I am married and have three daughters; Hanna (20), Alizah (17), and Piper (15). We all love gymnastics, water skiing, traveling, and being on the beach.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
What I love most about my job is that it’s different each and every day; that and the quotes from the kids are priceless!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Porterhouse and Tree Cafe.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We moved here in 2000 for my husband’s business and have called this town home ever since.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
The most inspiring person to me right now is Emma Claire Tatum. She has stage 4 bone cancer, yet she shows up to gymnastics and works out with her team with an amazing outlook on life. It’s beyond inspiring.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Ireland and Scotland. I was a fan of Outlander before the movie came out 🙂

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Princess Bride is my favorite movie. Outlander and any type of crime mystery shows are my favorite to watch.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Do what you love every day.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To visit all the historical sites in Washington D.C.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
I’m a true crime podcast junkie.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Centennial Amphitheater downtown.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Eric Carle, a children’s author. I would probably take him to my kindergarten class for a picnic and show off their Eric Carle artwork!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The lake. I will never forget seeing the fountain across the bridge the first time I came here.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Standing right here in the same place doing what I love.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
When I was 7 I won a headstand contest for standing on my head for 20 minutes!

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Macao Beach in the Dominican Republic.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
December is my favorite month and Christmas is my favorite holiday. The first day of school each year is my favorite day of the year.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Being on the beach with a book in hand.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Diesel and tilled dirt. Both remind me of my childhood and my dad.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Sleep. Family. Love.
